Before I go into the details of the forecast, I would like to stress that we have a Possibility of severe storms on the evening of July 4th. So make sure you have a way to receive notifications and have a plan to find shelter. Even when the storms are not severe, there is a risk of lightning. There is a chance that one can avoid certain areas during the fireworks, but in some parts of the region it will be tight and I just want to encourage you to think about your safety in case you are caught in a storm during the fireworks.

Thursday (July 4) is another First Alert Weather Day: There is a chance of thunderstorms with heavy rain in the early morning hours between 3am and 10am (smaller areas within the major flood warning could get 2-4 inches of rain). The latest models are actually a little encouraging for the parade, showing that the rain largely moved out between 9am and 10am. We can’t count on a completely dry parade just yet, but it’s nice to see this trend in the latest model runs.

It won’t rain all day and it will stay dry from late morning to the afternoon. It will definitely be humid and warm.

But let’s keep an eye out for severe storms in the evening. I’m highlighting 7 p.m. to midnight as a time for increased vigilance and will refine that time as needed based on newer model data. The latest trend in the St. Louis metro area is more mid- to late-evening, so 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. That could definitely change, but for now, it’s best to have a plan for how to find shelter during the fireworks. I’ll keep you posted on the updates and changes. You can download the First Alert 4 Weather App here to get alerts on the go:
