Boudreaux suspends campaign for Congress

Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux suspended his campaign for Congress on Monday.

After losing the special election to succeed former Speaker Kevin McCarthy in May, Boudreaux decided not to continue his campaign in the general election against Representative Vince Fong (R–Bakersfield).

The big picture: Boudreaux finished second in both the March 5 primary and the March 19 special primary for the 20th Congressional District, placing him on the ballot for the May special election and the November general election.

  • But Fong won the special election by more than 20 percentage points and has since been sworn into Congress.
  • Boudreaux said in the announcement that he will spend the rest of 2024 supporting common-sense, public safety-focused candidates across the Central Valley and California through a new grassroots organization, Golden State Justice.

What you say: “I know Congressman Fong and have worked closely with him and his team for more than a decade,” Boudreaux said. “While we were on opposite sides of this campaign, at the end of the day, we are Republicans, family men and fighters committed to protecting individual liberty, lowering the cost of living and maintaining safe communities for our neighbors.”

  • Fong thanked Boudreaux for his leadership in Tulare County and the hard-fought election campaign.
  • “I am honored to represent our community in Congress,” said Fong. “We work hard every day to deliver results to the residents of the 20th Congressional District. I intend to continue to reach out to voters and will take advantage of the opportunity presented by the November election to discuss the most important issues facing our district and present real solutions to improve our safety, economy and quality of life.”
