Father arrested in child murder case from 2021

(COLORADO SPRINGS) – The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) made an arrest on Friday, June 28, in a 2021 case involving a child murder.

On May 26, 2021, the CSPD Crimes Against Children Unit was notified by a Colorado Springs hospital of a critically injured toddler, younger than three months, who had been brought to the hospital by his parents. The toddler succumbed to his injuries on June 2, 2021.

In November 2021, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office ruled the death a homicide. In the years that followed, investigators conducted an intensive investigation, preparing and executing search warrants, reviewing medical reports, and conducting interviews.

On June 28, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for the child’s father, 24-year-old Josiah Whiteley, on a charge of first-degree murder. Whiteley is incarcerated in a state correctional facility on other charges.

Anyone with information or witnesses to this investigation is asked to call CSPD at (719) 444-7000. Those wishing to remain anonymous may call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at (719) 634-STOP (7867) or 1-800-222-8477.
