Man arrested after gun-related incident and pursuit

ACT Policing arrested a 29-year-old Franklin man today following a weapons and pursuit incident.

At around 12pm today (Thursday 9 May 2024), police allege the man driving a dark gray Ford Ranger Utility drove into the driveway of a home in O’Connor several times and allegedly threatened a resident. At that point, the resident noticed what appeared to be a gun on the man’s lap.

Police allege the same man drove to a nearby construction site around 12:05 p.m. before threatening another man with a gun, damaging property and stealing two cellphones from a vehicle.

Police attended the scene and began searching for the man and the vehicle, which was traveling north on Northbourne Avenue, Turner, at around 12.40pm.

The Ford Ranger was then pursued by police using marked and unmarked vehicles through O’Connor and Lyneham. However, the pursuit was called off when the ranger allegedly sped through a school campus.

The vehicle was then located in Lyneham where police responded to the vehicle again before it collided with an unmarked police vehicle near the junction of Wattle Street and Brigalow Street in Lyneham at around 1.15pm.

The man was arrested at the scene and is expected to be charged with various offenses in connection with the incident.

Anyone who witnessed these incidents, may have interacted with the man or has dashcam footage of the Ford Ranger being driven in and around the inner north today is urged to contact Crime Stoppers quoting reference number 7744434 . Further information is available provided anonymously.
