Investigations underway after warehouse fire closed portions of I-25, I-270 and I-76 northeast of Denver

A warehouse fire caused multiple closures of I-25, I-270 and I-76 north of Denver in Adams County during rush hour Tuesday night. According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, the fires likely started in a warehouse and were fueled by propane tanks under I-25.

The closures began just before 5 p.m. Tuesday when the fire broke out under I-25 in the area of I-270 and I-76. Several closures occurred in that area, including the I-76 eastbound ramp to I-25 northbound, the US 36 ramp to I-25 northbound, I-270 westbound at I-25, I-25 northbound at I-270 and I-25 southbound at I-270.

The Adams County Fire Department investigated the fire in a multi-agency operation that lasted several hours. The sheriff’s office told CBS News Colorado that the fire likely started in a storage facility under and around the highways and overpasses. The storage facility also contained propane tanks, which fueled the flames.

While firefighting and investigations were underway, all lanes remained closed to traffic until after 7 p.m. Tuesday. The lanes were reopened in time for rush hour on Wednesday morning.

There were no reports of injuries.
