Man allegedly exposed himself during an incident of driving aggression in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, Florida. – A 56-year-old man was arrested after being accused of exposing his genitals following a road rage incident Sunday afternoon in Leesburg.

Deputies said they responded to a call about road rage and causing a public nuisance at around 3:09 p.m.

According to an affidavit, officers spoke with a victim who said they were driving north on US-27 and slowed down due to heavy rain, when a silver Kia Optima drove around them at a high rate of speed and then cut off the road in front of them.

The victim told officers that the Kia began driving aggressively and “attempted to stop the victims from passing the Optima, which included coming to a complete stop” on US 27.

Officials said the driver of the Kia, later identified as James Box, accelerated again and began shouting and throwing objects at the victims’ vehicle.

According to the affidavit, the victim stopped near Plantation Boulevard and U.S. 27 to take down the license plate and vehicle information of Box’s Kia. At that point, Box stopped further ahead and exited his vehicle.

Officials said the victims were backing up as Box charged toward their car.

According to the affidavit, Box pulled his shorts down to his knees and grabbed his genitals with both hands, “shaking them toward the victims.”

The victims told officers that they screamed and looked away in fear when Box exposed himself.

Deputies said the incident occurred during rush hour on the busy highway as numerous other vehicles passed by.

The victims were able to show officers photos of the Kia’s license plate and of Box, who was charging toward their vehicle.

According to the affidavit, when officers went to the home where the Kia was registered, they saw Box wearing the same clothing the victim had described and shown in photos.

Deputies said Box denied being involved in a road rage incident and told them “you must be confused.”

Based on the victims’ statements, Box was arrested. Officials said he faces a charge of sexual exposure.
