A court heard that singer Ross Davidson “raped a tied up woman” before sending her promotional emails about the band he played in before joining Spandau Ballet.

Ross Davidson, 36, best known to his fans as Ross Wild, wanted sex up to six times a night and forced himself on women who refused, it is alleged. Jurors heard the singer was “a bit of a sex symbol” after starring in the West End musical We Will Rock You about a decade ago.

The singer, who became the lead singer of the Spandau Ballet in 2018, is accused of a series of sexual offences against four women, three of whom were allegedly raped, a court heard. The offences are said to have occurred over a ten-year period between 2013 and 2023.

Davidson appeared at Wood Green Crown Court wearing a tweed jacket and white shirt. A woman who was allegedly raped by the former Spandau Ballet star in his London flat in 2015 said that her sexual relations with him felt “like a transaction”.

She gave her evidence via video, which was played to the court. In her statement, she told the court that Davidson arbitrarily put a leather collar with buckles on her, which connected her neck to her wrists. She said: ‘I remember when I was in London, on the estate, in the middle of a conversation – without interrupting the conversation – he would leave the room and come back with a collar connected to handcuffs.

“Without interrupting the conversation, he just put it on me and I just let it happen.” Prosecutor Richard Hearnden asked the alleged victim why she allowed this to happen, to which she replied: “I didn’t know what would happen if I protested.”

She described his behaviour as “nonchalant” as he placed the leather and buckle collar on her. The court was told that Davidson explained his “mannequin” fantasy to the alleged victim.

“He expressed a fantasy that he liked to live out,” she said. “He mentioned that he liked having sex with models, and at first I thought that only meant people who worked as models – very attractive people.”

“But after the conversation, what he meant by that was mannequins, someone who pretends to be a still, lifeless, unresponsive person – as if he were a mannequin.”

“I remember finding it very strange. I couldn’t imagine the joy it would bring.” After the alleged rape, the court heard that the singer had sent the alleged victim “copy-and-paste” advertising texts for the band he played in before joining Spandau Ballet.

The alleged victim said: “He would occasionally send promotional messages for himself and for upcoming concerts, also for his band. It was more of a marketing thing. It felt more like a copy-and-paste kind of message that you could send to anyone.”

Davidson, from Finchley, north London, denies three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, one count of voyeurism, one count of intimidation and one count of controlling behaviour. The trial continues.
