One swimmer killed in swimming accident, one hospitalized | News

Lock Haven, Pennsylvania – Authorities say a teenager died while swimming in the Susquehanna River in Lock Haven Saturday afternoon.

According to the Lock Haven Fire Department, emergency personnel were called to the river near the City Beach area at 4:45 p.m. for reports of two male swimmers in distress.

Boaters were attempting to rescue one of the men, a 22-year-old, but the second swimmer, an 18-year-old, was missing, rescue officials said. Crews were able to pull the first victim to shore, where he was taken by rescue helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

After an extensive search by rescuers, the second male victim was found beneath the water’s surface but was dead, officials said.
