Woman killed, others injured in shooting near 31st Street Beach

CHICAGO – One woman was killed and another injured in a shooting near 31st Street Beach Wednesday evening.

When police responded to a report of a shooting, they found two women, ages 22 and 20, with gunshot wounds near the beach in the 600 block of East 31st Street around 10 p.m.

The 22-year-old was shot three times in the chest. She was taken to Insight Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later. Her identity has not yet been released by the Cook County Coroner.

The 22-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

No one has been arrested. Detectives from Area One have launched an investigation.
