Four dead in traffic accident on Highway 90 near the Dead Sea – Israel News

Israeli police confirmed on Wednesday evening that four people were killed in a traffic accident in the south of the country and two others were taken to hospital for treatment.

At around 11 p.m., Israeli police received a report of a car accident between two private vehicles on Highway 90 north of Hatzeva.

Highway 90 connects southern Israel with the Dead Sea and is a popular route for many holidaymakers in the country.

The four passengers were pronounced dead by paramedics on the scene. The other two were taken to Soroka Medical Center for medical treatment. Both were in moderate condition, according to medical authorities.

According to initial reports, a 35-year-old man was killed in the first car, a 45-year-old man and two girls aged 14 and 13 were killed in the second car. A 40-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were taken to hospital.

Dimona police, including traffic accident experts, were called to the scene of the accident and began investigating the circumstances of the accident.

Number of fatal traffic accidents increased by 22%

This accident occurred less than a week after three Israelis were killed in a car crash in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

Two of the family’s children survived and were brought to Israel and placed in the care of their extended family.

“A serious disaster, I am at a loss for words,” MK Ahmad Tibi told Israeli media after the accident.

Highway 90 is a hotspot for fatal traffic accidents; several similar fatal accidents have occurred here in recent years.

Since the beginning of 2024, 218 Israelis have died in traffic accidents, a 22% increase from the same period last year and the highest in the last decade, according to N12.
