Tehama County Sheriff Dave Kains calls for investigation into Chief Administrative Officer Gabriel Hyrdick | News

TEHAMA COUNTY, California – Last week we reported that Tehama County Sheriff Dave Kain is calling for an investigation into Chief Administrative Officer Gabriel Hydrick. Action News Now spoke with Sheriff Kain to learn more.

“I am frustrated by many of the issues I have raised with the Board of Directors privately and on multiple occasions, and I am frustrated and disappointed that the Board of Directors is not taking this matter more seriously,” Kain said.

Tension still runs high in Tehama County as Kain has asked county leaders to investigate Hydrick. During last week’s meeting, Kain spoke to the board about his frustration with Hydrick’s formal and public response last month to budget concerns raised by the sheriff.

Kain claims there are inaccuracies in some of the costs of the sheriff’s helicopter program. He also says it was inappropriate for Hydrick to mention his department to Kain’s family, which was hired here.

“Mr. Hydrick did this personally for me, my office and my family. The information he provided to you in the original press release was completely inaccurate on almost every level and that has unfortunately led to some backlash in the social media world questioning whose information is accurate and whose is not,” Kain said.

Kain points to Tehama County personnel rules that require a complaint about an incident to be made verbally or in writing. Kain sent an email to all supervisors on May 23 after sending out his press release the same day in response to Hydrick’s statement.

Supervisor Matt Hansen told us that he feels there is currently no investigation into Hydrick due to a lack of information.

Action News Now reached out to Hydrick and here is the statement he shared with us:

“The investigation they are conducting against me is a continuation of the ‘recycled small town politics’ that is all too familiar to voters and county staff. The focus must remain on advancing county business for the benefit of the public, which is something I care about personally and professionally.”

Kain plans to speak again at tomorrow’s Board of Supervisors meeting in the Council Chamber.

Action News Now has reached out to the Tehama County District Attorney and we are still waiting to hear back on whether an investigation has been launched into Hydrick.
