Police make arrest after luxury cars stolen from car dealership

The phrase “high damage” is the best description for what happened to several luxury cars after police said at least two Camargo Cadillac vehicles were stolen in Montgomery. “The two stolen vehicles are followed by four others,” a 911 dispatcher said. “They just drove past our (Montgomery) police at a high rate of speed heading north — one of them without his lights on. I’m going to try to catch up to them,” an unidentified officer responded. Police said that around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, several people were driving luxury cars that had been stolen in several locations, including the city of Monroe and in Clark County north of Dayton. Once they were all together in Montgomery, some of the suspects headed south to Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway. Others headed north to I-275, then south onto I-71 before making a dangerous U-turn. “They’re turning around,” an officer said. “They’re going north in the southbound lane.” It appears most of the stolen cars ended up crashing. In one case, an airbag deployed. Another car picked up debris from a tree that is now lodged in a window. “What vehicle are you behind?” a dispatcher asked at one point. “I got a couple that fell out,” an officer said. “Uh, hold on quick. A couple fell out and they all took off running. I think three or four took off running.” So far, all but one of the suspected car thieves remain at large. Officers managed to arrest 18-year-old Malik Shelton of Dayton, who investigators say tried to flee after wrecking the expensive car he is accused of stealing. Shelton is charged with theft, burglary and receiving stolen goods. Montgomery police declined to appear on camera Tuesday afternoon, citing the complexity of the investigation. According to court documents, police said Shelton and others broke into a Camargo Cadillac and stole keys to cars that were being serviced. A person who was just arriving saw what was happening and called 911.

The term “high damage” is the best description of what happened to several luxury cars after police say at least two vehicles were stolen from Camargo Cadillac in Montgomery.

“The two stolen vehicles are followed by four more,” said an emergency dispatcher.

“They just drove past our (Montgomery) police station at a high rate of speed heading north – one of them without his lights on. I’m going to try to catch up to them,” an unidentified officer replied.

According to police, around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, several people were driving luxury cars that had been stolen in several locations, including the city of Monroe and in Clark County north of Dayton.

After everyone was gathered in Montgomery, some of the suspects headed south to Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway.

Others drove north to I-275 and then south to I-71 before making a dangerous maneuver.

“You’re turning around,” an officer said. “You’re heading north in the southbound lane.”

It seems that most of the stolen cars caused accidents.

In one case, an airbag was deployed. Another car picked up debris from a tree that is now lodged in a window.

“Which vehicle are you behind?” a dispatcher asked at one point.

“A couple of them crashed,” an officer said. “Uh, please come here quickly. A couple of them crashed and they all ran. I think three or four ran.”

At this point, all of the suspected car thieves, except one, are still at large.

Officers were able to arrest 18-year-old Malik Shelton of Dayton. According to detectives, he attempted to flee after wrecking the expensive car he was alleged to have stolen.

Shelton is charged with theft, burglary and receiving stolen goods.

Citing the complexity of the investigation, Montgomery police declined to appear on camera Tuesday afternoon.

According to court documents, police said Shelton and others broke into a Cadillac belonging to Camargo and stole the keys to cars that were being serviced. A person who was arriving noticed what had happened and called 911.
