2 dead as dump truck overturns in suburban Wauconda – NBC Chicago

Lake County sheriff’s deputies remain on scene after a dump truck rolled over on a suburban road in Wauconda, killing two people and seriously injuring a third.

According to authorities, the accident occurred Wednesday morning near the intersection of Fairfield Road and Chardon Road.

At that time, a dump truck was traveling north on Fairfield Road and at the same time a sedan was approaching on Chardon Road, police said. The driver of the sedan drove into the intersection and crashed head-on into the truck.

The force of the impact caused the truck to tip over on its side and spill a load of concrete.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, as was a passenger in the back seat of the vehicle. A passenger in the front seat was taken to an area hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

According to Total Traffic, Fairfield Road will remain closed in both directions between Gilmer Road and Route 60 “for an extended period of time” to allow an investigation and crash cleanup to take place.
