Atlanta Braves outfielder thrives on day one in new role

On Saturday, the Atlanta Braves offense came alive for the second straight day with a blowout 9-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Truist Park. With home runs from three other teammates, new Braves leader and center fielder Jarred Kelenic began the offensive assault with a two-run shot to right-center field. He also set the tone of the match, demonstrating his importance and contribution to the team’s success.

With Michael Harris III leaving for the IL and Ronald Acuña Jr. out for the remainder of the season, the three-year veteran has stepped up by taking on two new roles for his club. Impressively, he handled them with ease, demonstrating his adaptability and potential during his first season with the Braves.

Saturday afternoon against the Rays, he went 3-5, including a home run and two singles. The 24-year-old has been a beacon of hope in a season plagued by numerous injuries, an inconsistent offense and stellar baseball play for one of the best teams in baseball over the past five seasons. Fortunately, Kelenic’s work not only helped them get through the tough times, but it also boosted team morale and sparked renewed offensive energy.

Jarred Kelenic’s attitude is the spark the Braves offense needed.

In a recent postgame interview with Bally Sports, the 24-year-old Wisconsin native provided insight on how to maintain competitiveness despite the offense’s recent drought heading into this stint home..

“Whenever negativity sets in, you start making emotional decisions, whether they’re swing decisions or mental decisions about what you’re trying to do,” Kelenic said after the game.

Essentially, he’s saying he and others think too much at the plate. As evidenced in recent days, the offense has shifted its mentality to attack opposing pitchers.

The 6-1 left-handed hitter has been one of the team’s most consistent hitters, batting .259 – good enough for third best behind Marcell Ozuna and Ozzie Albies. Additionally, his prowess on the field is a sight to behold.

Overall, Kelenic plays with the right attitude and a good heart, and when all else fails, maximum effort can turn the tide. This has made his transition to new roles relatively easy so far this season.
