Atlanta Braves starter does something that hasn’t been done in team history since the Hall of Fame T

The Atlanta Braves defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday as Braves pitcher Reynaldo Lopez’s historic season continued.

The right-hander, who was signed last offseason, went 6.0 innings and allowed just two hits. He walked one and struck out eight to bring his impressive record to 4-2. He lowered his ERA to a microscopic 1.69 as he joined the Braves Hall of Fame in team history.

By @JayHayKid from the “Baseball is Dead” podcast:

Reynaldo López now has a 1.69 ERA through just 12 starts this season.

This is the lowest ERA by a Braves pitcher in the first 12 starts of a season since Tom Glavine in 2002 (1.59).

When the Braves signed Lopez last offseason and said they wanted to make him a starter, there were certainly questions. He had only started one game since 2022, but the transition to the rotation, where he served from 2016 to 2021, was smooth.

Lopez is in the ninth year of his career with the Washington Nationals, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels and Cleveland Guardians. He is 43-51 lifetime with a 4.07 ERA, but he should be highly considered for an All-Star spot this season.

His contributions in Atlanta have been even greater given season-ending injuries to Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuna Jr. The only question remaining for Lopez is whether he can maintain this workload for the remainder of the season. ‘year. He has already worked 69.1 innings this year, which is his most since 2019.
