‘Extraordinarily dangerous’ TikTok challenge lands Florida teenager in handcuffs

US News

Two Florida teenagers were identified and arrested after surveillance video caught them kicking down the doors of residents’ homes as part of a TikTok challenge.

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said the two 15-year-olds were arrested on multiple counts of burglary after admitting to kicking in the front doors of four homes.

According to Spring Hill officials, four reports have been investigated over the past two weeks in which unknown individuals approached the front door of a residential building in the early morning hours, kicked the door, and caused damage.

Deputies said that in some cases the force of the kicks caused the door to fly open.

Officials said both boys, who lived within walking distance of the four houses, admitted to kicking the front doors.

According to authorities, a teenager told investigators he kicked the doors in response to a trend he discovered on social media called the “Door Kick Challenge.”

The teenager also said he never intended to enter any of the houses.

“This situation was extraordinarily dangerous on several levels,” said Sheriff Al Nienhuis.

“First, there was a very good possibility that these young men could have been shot by a homeowner who was lawfully defending his home. Second, the homeowner in this case would have been burdened with the fact that he or she killed two teenagers who were participating in a silly activity.”

Officials said both teens were arrested on four counts of home invasion.

They were both taken to the Hernando County Detention Center where their cases were processed and then released into the custody of their parents.
