St. Petersburg police officer arrested for passing on confidential information

A St. Petersburg police officer has been arrested on suspicion of obtaining information from confidential police databases and passing it on to a man who used it to commit a crime.

Robin Conyers, 59, was arrested by St. Petersburg police on Thursday on charges of unauthorized use of a two-way communication device, crimes against computer users and misuse of confidential information, according to a police department press release.

According to police, during a routine quarterly audit, Conyers’ supervisor noticed that several entries were not work-related. When that information was turned over to the Office of Professionals Standards for investigation, investigators determined that Conyers had violated department policy and committed a crime.

She passed information about the deceased owner of a car to Delon Walton, who then used that information to transfer the car’s title to his landscaping and tree service company, police said.

Walton, 45, was arrested last month on charges of attempted fraud, criminal use of a dead person’s personal information, perjury by making a false written statement and selling a vehicle without delivering proof of ownership. He was arrested the same day on four counts of sexual abuse of a child, records show.

Conyers was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Thursday and placed on unpaid leave pending the outcome of her criminal charges.
