Joliet girl sexually abused by handyman in her home: English

JOLIET – A 47-year-old Aurora handyman is currently in the Will County Jail facing charges of aggravated sexual abuse, Joliet police announced in a news release. José Velázquez-Flores is accused of sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl in Joliet.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said Velazquez-Flores was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Center and remains there.

According to English, Joliet police learned of an allegation of sexual abuse of a 16-year-old girl at 8:52 p.m. on May 7. The incident occurred on April 25 at a home in the Caton Ridge neighborhood.

Vazquez-Flores, a handyman, was hired by the victim’s parents to perform repairs on their home. After interviewing the victim, Joliet Police Department investigators believed Velazquez-Flores had inappropriate sexual contact with the underage victim.

Vazquez-Flores voluntarily presented himself to the Joliet Police Department for questioning on Tuesday. According to English, Vazquez-Flores admitted to engaging in sexual acts with the minor victim, who he knew was 16 years old. Investigators took Vazquez-Flores into custody without incident.
