48-year-old dies in accident in West Valley on I-215

WEST VALLEY, Utah – A 48-year-old man named Leonardo Abraham Angel Mejia died Friday in what police described as a serious crash.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred in West Valley on I-215 W Southbound at 1300 South around 4:20 p.m.

According to state police, Angel Mejia was parked in a Chevy Tahoe on the left side of the road and was outside the car between a barrier and the car when it was struck by another car.

According to DPS, a Nissan NV200 van struck the rear passenger corner of Angel Mejia’s car, causing fatal injuries. He died at the scene, according to state police.

DPS stated that the Nissan NV200 van was leaving its lane when it collided with Angel Mejia’s car. The reason for this is currently unknown.
