Popular Pittsburgh restaurant hit by consumer warnings

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for EatUnique restaurant on South Craig Street in Oakland.

An inspector discovered fresh rodent droppings on food-contact surfaces Tuesday, including prep tables, a tabletop blender, the back of a grill, food packaging and an open box of parchment paper.

Additionally, fresh rodent droppings were found on the floor throughout the restaurant, particularly near the back entrance. The restaurant has been instructed to keep the door closed during opening hours.

A hole was discovered in the baseboard near the kitchen sink.

No date was found on the restaurant’s prepared rice and the person in charge said they did not know when it was prepared.

Mayonnaise with a best-before date of May 9 was found in a refrigerator. The inspection took place on June 4.

There is a black organic deposit on the inner surface of the ice cream maker that comes into contact with food.

The restaurant will remain open as long as the alert level is active.
