Action Alert – Call on the NYS Assembly to Protect Call Center Workers!

Working for the government should not entail the risk of losing your job every ten years.

New York State contracts with private sector employers to provide call center services. Currently, a change in contract can mean mass layoffs of the skilled and experienced workforce, causing significant harm to workers, our communities, and the public as they face service interruptions during the new business’s start-up phase.

For example, nearly 300 of our CWA members at the state-contracted E-ZPass customer service center on Staten Island are facing layoffs after the state put the contract out to bid with a new company and offered no guarantees of continued employment. We cannot allow this to happen again. We must take action now to protect workers and good union jobs.

We are fighting for a bill that would require New York State to protect its workforce and retain its employees when a call center’s contract changes ownership. Email your New York State Representative to bring the bill to a vote and stand with workers!
