Mississippi teenager arrested after threatening Waffle House, shooting man

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A Mississippi teenager was arrested after allegedly attempting to shoot a man and threatening to shoot customers and employees at a Waffle House.

Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter said the incident occurred on May 22, 2024.


According to the sheriff, 16-year-old Jaden Bryant Maples called the Waffle House on Highway 63 and threatened to shoot the customers and employees inside.

A Moss Point man was inside the restaurant and drove off across the highway. Ledbetter said Maples repeatedly rammed the man’s vehicle, which was then destroyed. The sheriff said the victim got out and ran away, and Maples shot him multiple times.

Maples was arrested on Thursday, May 30, after authorities obtained a search warrant for his home. Investigators said they found several firearms and ammunition in his bedroom.

The sheriff said Maples was charged with attempted murder and making terroristic threats. He appeared in court on Friday, May 31, but was denied bail.
