Former dean of a high school in Marion County arrested

A former dean of a Marion County high school was arrested Friday. According to Ocala police, he is accused of multiple sex offenses against students. Officials identified him as 42-year-old Gregory Ramputi and said he is the dean of Vanguard High School. According to reports, the alleged misconduct occurred on and off school grounds over several years. A student in her senior year at the school reported to Ocala police that Ramputi had inappropriate contact with her and other students on multiple occasions during her time in high school, officials said. Officials said four other students made similar reports, claiming Ramputi made inappropriate requests and remarks. There were also several reports that Ramputi inappropriately touched students and engaged in sexual acts with one of the victims, officials said. Ocala officials said Ramputi asked to see nude photos of a student, which he allegedly looked at. Ramputi is currently charged with:Five counts of misdemeanor acts against students by authority figures.Five counts of unlawful sexual activity with certain minors.Three counts of traveling to meet with minors.Two counts of indecent, lewd or lascivious touching of certain minors.One count of possession of child pornography.Marion County Public Schools officials said Ramputi started as a teacher at North Marion Middle School in 2014 and transferred to Vanguard High School in 2015. They say he is no longer with the district. He resigned from his position on May 21, according to Ocala police. “We ask that if anyone else has experienced similar behavior from Mr. Ramputi, please report it to law enforcement immediately,” the Ocala Police Department said.

Officials identified him as 42-year-old Gregory Ramputi and said he was the dean of Vanguard High School.

According to reports, alleged misconduct occurred on and off school grounds over several years.

A senior at the school reported to Ocala police that Ramputi had had inappropriate contact with her and other students on several occasions during her high school years, officials said.

Officials said four other student victims had filed similar reports, alleging that Ramputi had made inappropriate requests and remarks.

There were also several reports that Ramputi inappropriately touched female students and performed sexual acts with one of the victims, officials said.

Ocala officials said Ramputi asked to see nude photos of a female student and allegedly looked at them.

The following allegations are currently being made against Ramputi:

  • Five cases of abuse of students by persons in authority.
  • Five cases of illicit sexual conduct with minors.
  • Three cases of travel to meet minors.
  • Two counts of indecent, lewd or lascivious touching of certain minors.
  • One count of possession of child pornography.

Marion County Public Schools officials said Ramputi started as a teacher at North Marion Middle School in 2014 and transferred to Vanguard High School in 2015. They say he is no longer with the district. He resigned from his position on May 21, according to Ocala police.

“We ask that anyone who has witnessed similar behavior from Mr. Ramputi please report it to law enforcement immediately,” Ocala police said.
