The woman stopped in the middle of the crosswalk and took a step back. A black Toyota Rav4 then grazed the Jeep, but the woman was unable to get back onto the sidewalk safely.

The Rav4 hit the rear bumper of the Jeep and the vehicle skidded. The Jeep sped straight toward the pedestrian.

The driver of the jeep flees

The woman was thrown into a parked car after a violent collision with the Jeep. The New York Police Department said the driver of the Jeep then got out and fled.

Three people got out of the damaged Jeep. The driver pointed in the direction where the woman had been hit, took several items from the vehicle and calmly walked away. The driver of the Rav4, however, remained at the scene of the accident.

The woman was taken to Lincoln Hospital but was pronounced dead, police said. Her identity was not released.

It is unclear whether one of the vehicles ran a red light. It is also unclear which car had the right of way.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing and no charges have been filed yet.

This month, a Bronx driver was nabbed a year after leaving 64-year-old e-bike rider Hua Pan dying on the road in another hit-and-run case. Emilio Berrios, 32, was released on charges of involuntary manslaughter, reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident for the fatal hit-and-run crash that killed Pan on April 5 last year.
