Pensioner killed in motorcycle accident in Apple Valley

A 68-year-old man died Saturday in a collision between his motorcycle and a car near his home in Apple Valley, authorities said.

Robert Witt of Apple Valley was killed in the collision, which occurred just before 10:30 a.m. at the corner of Standing Rock Avenue and Blackfoot Road, San Bernardino County sheriff’s officials said.

He was traveling westbound on Standing Rock Avenue in a 2011 Harley-Davidson Road Glide shortly before the crash, officials said. A northbound 2017 Honda Civic drove through the intersection that crosses Standing Rock Avenue from Pine Ridge Avenue onto Blackfoot Road.

“The motorcyclist drove sideways into the sedan at the intersection,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement.

Witt was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda, a 51-year-old woman from Apple Valley, remained at the scene of the accident and cooperated with investigators, sheriff’s officials said.

According to public records, Witt’s home was less than a mile from the accident scene.

The intersection is controlled by a stop sign for northbound and southbound traffic, while eastbound and westbound traffic flows freely along Standing Rock Road.
