House reduces Alvarez sentence to censure for 60-day suspension

MANILA, Philippines – The House of Representatives on Wednesday voted to censure Davao del Norte 1st District Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez. Instead of complying with the original recommendation to suspend him for 60 days for “unparliamentary and inappropriate statements that have a negative impact on the dignity, integrity and reputation of the House”.

Rep. Felimon Espares, from the Coop Natcco party-list and chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Ethics and Privileges, told the plenary session that the decision was made after “thorough and extensive” deliberations.
