Bond was rejected because of the teenager who killed a man at a tennis facility in Mississippi’s capital.

According to Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade, 19-year-old Daveon Lindsey was arrested around 1 p.m. Wednesday when he crashed the vehicle stolen by 29-year-old Melvin McNair Jr. on Ridgewood Road in front of the Jackson Fire Station 19. McNair was found dead in a pool of blood at Parham Bridges Park just hours earlier.

Investigators learned that a maroon 2016 GMC Sierra pickup truck was taken after McNair’s death. Officers spotted the suspect at a Walgreens just a block from the crime scene before a chase ensued. According to reports, a second vehicle also crashed during the chase.

Wade said Lindsey confessed to killing McNair. The teen shot the victim multiple times with a pink assault rifle, drugged McNair from the vehicle and confiscated the man’s wallet before driving away in the truck. The police confiscated the murder weapon at the scene of the accident.

“This was very disturbing in many ways because so many people in northeast Jackson use this park,” Wade said during a news conference.

A motive for the shooting was not revealed.
