Police are investigating after the body was recovered from the Missouri River north of Omaha

FLORENCE, Neb. (WOWT) – Authorities are investigating after a body was recovered from the Missouri River a few miles north of the Mormon Bridge on Interstate 680.

Police were called to an area near the Surfside Club around 6:30 p.m

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the body was initially observed floating in the river north of the Douglas-Washington County line.

The sheriff’s office, Council Bluffs and Omaha fire departments and the Omaha Police Department helicopter responded to assist in the search and recovery.

It was the Able 1 helicopter that located the body. Fire crews recovered and transported the body to the boat launch at NP Dodge Park where it was turned over to the Sheriff’s Office.

It was only determined that the body was an adult male.

It was initially unclear how it got into the water.
