Suspect shot at Amazon facility after confrontation with police in Ohio; 1 officer injured – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

MADISON COUNTY — The suspect accused of firing shots at an Amazon facility in Ohio is dead and an officer is injured after an encounter Sunday evening.

As News Center 7 previously reported, Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the Amazon CMH5 Fulfillment Center at 6400 State Route 29 in West Jefferson just after 4:40 p.m. on reports of shots fired inside.

West Jefferson police also said the suspect was an Amazon employee who left the scene and was found in Columbus, the department said on social media.

The sheriff’s office wrote on social media that no one was injured.

According to our news partner WBNS in Columbus, Columbus police officers responded to a crash at Georgesville and Clime Roads on Sunday evening around 6 p.m.

Police said they encountered a person believed to be connected to the shooting at the Amazon facility. West Jefferson police also confirmed the connection between the two scenes.

Shortly before 6:10 p.m., shots were fired in Columbus. Multiple officers shot and killed the suspect, Brian Steel, president of the Fraternal Order of the Police Capital City Lodge #9, told WBNS and NBC 4.

During the exchange, an officer was struck. Steel said a bullet struck the officer’s vest.

Paramedics transported the officer to a hospital in Columbus, where he is in stable condition.

Ohio BCI was asked to investigate the shooting.
