Newark man arrested for drug possession and impaired driving after U-Haul incident

Deputies say one person has been arrested on two charges following an incident over the weekend in Ontario County.

Ronald James Cassidy, 54, of Newark, was arrested early Saturday morning on charges of drunken driving and criminal possession of a controlled substance. The incident occurred around 12:18 a.m. at the intersection of East Lake Road and County Line in the city of Richmond.

Authorities were initially tasked with investigating a suspicious vehicle, which appeared to be a U-Haul truck. During the investigation, it was determined that Cassidy was impaired and was operating the vehicle under the influence of drugs. A subsequent search revealed that Cassidy was in possession of a white powdery substance, later determined to be fentanyl.

Cassidy was issued a ticket for the appearance as well as traffic tickets related to the charges. He is scheduled to appear in Richmond Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
