Ninth-grader was arrested after a tip on the FortifyFL app led to the discovery of a gun at the Putnam County school

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla — An app that allows students to send tips to law enforcement is the reason for the arrest of a Putnam County student accused of bringing a gun to school.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said a tip on the FortifyFL app led authorities to the ninth-grader at QI Roberts Junior-Senior High School.

Deputy Brady, assigned to the school, found the student with a gun in his backpack. The deputy secured the handgun and took the student into custody just three minutes after authorities received the alert.

The school was not placed on lockdown because there was no class change on campus and officials did not want to let the student know that they were aware of the situation.

The school district also notified parents and families of the situation. School dismissal was not interrupted.

The investigation is ongoing.
