Police crack down on pro-Palestinian protesters – NBC Boston

Dozens of police officers moved onto the MIT campus on Friday morning to break up a pro-Palestinian camp.

Protesters who were part of the camp were taken to the edge of the campus onto the public sidewalk and chanted “Liberate Palestine.”

Police on campus began breaking up the camp shortly after 4 a.m. and taking some of the protesters into custody.

MIT police and state police began the operation around 3 a.m., with officers bused in to help clear the camp.

Shortly after 4 a.m., police arrived and began arresting protesters, securing them with cable ties and loading them onto at least one of the buses.

Fewer than 10 people were arrested after a group of protesters disrupted traffic near a parking garage, according to MIT.

It is unclear how many people were taken away and whether anyone was formally arrested or merely temporarily detained.

This came after the MIT administration repeatedly warned that the camp would have to be demolished.

Protesters blocked a parking garage on campus Thursday, resulting in fewer than 10 arrests. Several students were also suspended for their involvement in this camp.

Students remain concerned about classes starting on May 29th. You fear that the start of your studies will be canceled or interrupted.

It is clear that the university is now trying to deal with this situation to avoid further problems in the future.
