Lewiston police investigating shooting at public housing complex where teenager found dead last week

Lewiston police are investigating the second shooting incident in less than a week at the same public housing complex where a 17-year-old was found dead of gunshot wounds last week.

According to Lewiston police, officers in the Sabattus Street area reported hearing gunshots coming from the area of ​​the Hillview public housing complex and Rideout Street around 9:40 p.m. on Friday.

Several witnesses on Rideout Street also reported hearing gunshots coming from the apartment complex, police said.

When officers arrived, they found at least one vehicle that had been struck by a bullet.

Police said Saturday that they believe no one was injured in the shooting, but that the investigation is still ongoing.

No arrests were announced.

Hillview Apartments is the largest age-unrestricted public housing complex in Lewiston and is managed by the Lewiston Municipal Housing Authority.

On Sunday, July 14, Lewiston Police responded to a 911 call about shots fired at the Hillview Apartments and found 17-year-old Sahal Muridi dead at the scene.

Friday’s shooting is the latest in a series of shootings that have been investigated by police in recent weeks.

Including the shooting that resulted in Muridi’s death, police have responded to four shootings in the past two weeks, three of which occurred in the city’s public housing complexes.
