Burglar kidnaps student at Sequoia High School, police investigate attempted kidnapping

(KRON) — An intruder entered a Redwood City high school Thursday and tried to drag a student from his classroom, Redwood City police said. The school was placed on lockdown while officers tried to find the suspect.

Sequoia High School officials said a “suspicious person” entered a classroom around 2 p.m. and attempted to pull a boy from the room. A teacher intervened and the suspect fled.

As he left the scene, the man said he had a gun and warned people not to touch him. The school was put on lockdown while officers searched for him.

Officers found the man as he was leaving a building on the west side of campus, police said. The long, cylindrical object he was carrying was an umbrella.

The suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Trey Duus, resisted arrest, so officers used less-lethal force. He was hospitalized with minor injuries and will later be taken to jail.

Officials later discovered that on his way out of the school, Duus ran rampaging through the school, punched a hole in a bathroom wall, and stole a printer cartridge.

He is sent to prison for attempted kidnapping, burglary, endangering a child, obstructing police, vandalism and trespassing on school grounds.
