Former North Carolina Animal Services Director Arrested for Fraud

GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT) — Officials with the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office arrested the former director of Pitt County Animal Services on Wednesday for forgery.

On June 20, the Sheriff’s Office became aware of a case involving the Red Oak Fire Department. After investigating the fire department, investigators found forged documents that were submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which then notified the FBI.

On July 17, arrest warrants were issued for 50-year-old Christopher Chad Singleton for forgery, fraudulent statement and obtaining property by false pretense.

Singleton turned himself in to the Pitt County Detention Center, where he was held on $50,000 bail. He has since been released and is scheduled to make his first appearance in Pitt County District Court on Thursday.
