Agra: After a 17-year-long trial, Mainpuri police constable Vimlesh Yadav was convicted of rape by an Agra court and sentenced to seven years in prison and a fine of Rs 20,000. The case was registered at the women’s police station in Agra on November 22, 2007. The woman alleged that she was married for love but later her husband tried to kill her during an argument. Based on her complaint, charges were filed against her husband under various sections of the IPC, including ‘attempt to murder’. According to the details of the case, police constable Vimlesh Yadav, a resident of Shahzadpur in Mainpuri, was staying in the woman’s neighbourhood. When she became pregnant, he started beating her. The constable also pressured her to terminate the pregnancy. When she complained, he threatened to “kidnap” her. Based on the complaint, a case was registered against the police officer in the women’s court.
