KEARNEY — The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office reminded residents of restrictions associated with auxiliary vehicle lighting, including light bars.

According to the sheriff’s office, any motor vehicle may be equipped with two auxiliary driving lights mounted on the front at a height of at least 12 inches or more than 42 inches above the flat surface of the vehicle.

This does not apply to any vehicle equipped with a blade, snow plow or any other device designed for moving snow.

Auxiliary lights must be turned off at the same time as the vehicle’s headlights must be dimmed when approaching another vehicle, whether from the front or the rear.

“This means that your light bar mounted on the hood or roof of your pickup truck is violating this law,” according to the sheriff’s office.

For those interested in learning more about auxiliary driving lights or light bars, it is recommended to read Nebraska Revised Statute 60-6.225.

The facts were provided by a “Did You Know” social media post that Deputy Wilson creates each month for the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office.
