Man found dead on beach at Smith Point County Park on Fire Island, police said

The Suffolk County Police Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a man found in the waters of a Fire Island beach Sunday afternoon.

Police responded after beachgoers at Outer Beach in Smith Point County Park pulled the unconscious man from the water just before 4 p.m. He was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police responded after beachgoers at Outer Beach in Smith Point County Park pulled the unconscious man from the water just before 4 p.m. He was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The man probably drowned, police said.

Police had not identified the man as of Sunday evening and asked anyone with relevant information to call the Homicide Unit at 631-852-6392.
