San Pablo police make arrests in arson and murder investigation

The San Pablo Police Department announced on July 2 the arrest of William S. Ramirez in connection with arson and murder.

San Pablo, California – On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 1:23 a.m., San Pablo Police officers were notified of a fire on San Pablo Creek near the 1900 block of 20th Street.

The Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ConFire) responded to the incident and subsequently notified San Pablo Police Department officers that a deceased person with severe burns was found in the area of ​​the extinguished fire. Due to the condition of the deceased, San Pablo investigators were unable to immediately determine the identity of the person or the cause of death.

A subsequent autopsy revealed blunt force trauma to the perpetrator’s head, suggesting the possibility of homicide.

During the investigation, police investigators identified the 35-year-old William S. Ramirez (temporarily) classified as a person of interest and a warrant was issued for his arrest for murder and arson.

On July 11, 2024, at approximately 7:00 a.m., San Pablo Police officers executed a search warrant in the 1800 block of 23rd Street, where Ramirez was taken into custody without incident. Police investigators later found evidence linking Ramirez to the crime.

Ramirez was arrested on the Ramey warrant and remains in the Martinez Detention Facility pending charges filed by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. There are currently no other suspects.

The victim is believed to be a 40-year-old adult female (in transit). Her identity is being withheld pending further notification from the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office.
