TBI continues search for Nashville woman missing for nearly 3 years

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – It’s been nearly three years since Lucy Buchanan disappeared from her Nashville apartment, and no one still knows exactly what happened to her.

Over the years, investigators have continued to search for Buchanan, who remains the subject of a Silver Alert. On Monday, July 8, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) renewed its appeal for information on the 85-year-old’s disappearance.

The case remains one of the oldest active Silver Alerts in the state. The TBI issued the alert just days after the 85-year-old was last seen leaving her Buena Vista Pike apartment on Nov. 24, 2021.

Surveillance footage Images released by the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) show Buchanan getting into an elevator around 10 a.m. that morning. Later that same day, cameras at Walgreens captured Buchanan walking south on Clarksville Pike.

Police said she was known to roam around the Buena Vista and Clarksville Pike areas. In the videos, investigators said she was wearing khaki pants, a gray toboggan hat, a gray scarf and a white, puffy winter coat.

The morning of November 29 was the last time she spoke to her family on the phone. By the afternoon, her phone was either dead or turned off. According to the TBI, a family member came to her apartment to drop off groceries and Buchanan was not there.

Residents of her apartment complex said she may have gotten into a gray van with a female driver on the day she was last seen.

It is believed that Buchanan was suffering from early dementia at the time of her disappearance. Police initially believed that Buchanan may have been with a friend and was unaware that her family was looking for her.

Buchanan weighs about 120 pounds, is about 5 feet tall, and has gray hair and brown eyes. She would be 87 years old now.

Anyone who has seen Buchanan or has information about her disappearance is asked to call MNPD at 615-742-7463 or the TBI in 1-800-TBI-FIND.
