Accident on I-80 leaves pedestrian dead

LASALLE COUNTY, Illinois — Update: ISP reports that the road has been reopened since 12:30 p.m.

One person was killed in a crash involving a car and a pedestrian on Interstate 80 in LaSalle County on Monday, July 8.

Illinois State Police report that the accident occurred around 9:20 a.m. near mile marker 71 on westbound I-80. The accident scene is about two miles west of the Peru exit.

According to ISP, the pedestrian’s death was confirmed at the scene.

Shortly before noon, I-80 westbound was closed to traffic. Detours were set up for westbound traffic as it was rerouted via IL 251 and US Route 6.
