Three people arrested after Robeson County shooting that injured mother and child

RED SPRINGS, NC (WMBF) – Three people were arrested following a shooting Tuesday that left a mother and her child injured in Red Springs.

Officials with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office were alerted on Tuesday to several people firing firearms in the area of ​​New Mexico Drive in Red Springs.

When officers arrived, they found a woman and her two-year-old child suffering from injuries caused by shots being fired into their home.

A third person was identified as a suspect and was also injured in the shooting.

The woman and the child were not involved in the dispute between the two groups.

During the investigations and searches of the two houses, several firearms were found and confiscated.

Nichole Oxendine, a 40-year-old from Lumberton, was arrested and charged with assault with intent to kill, two counts of discharging a weapon into an inhabited property and criminal conspiracy.

Elijah Chandler, an 18-year-old from Red Springs, was arrested and charged with burglary, theft, possession of stolen property, possession of a stolen firearm and two counts of enticement of a minor to commit crimes.

Oxendine and Chandler are currently being held without bail at the Robeson County Detention Center.

A 16-year-old was also arrested and charged with burglary, theft, conspiracy, possession of stolen property and possession of a stolen firearm.

The 16-year-old is being held without bail at the Cumberland Regional Juvenile Detention Center.

Lawmakers expect more charges to be filed as this case and other shootings remain under investigation.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Juvenile and Criminal Investigation Division is investigating.
