The city told ABC7 News that 500 to 1,000 fish had died in Lake Elizabeth in Central Park.

The Alameda County Fair will remain open through Sunday despite triple-digit heat and is taking precautions to protect 4-H and FFA animals.

Shortly after their discovery on Wednesday, emergency services began cleaning the fish.

Fremont Township officials say the recent heat is causing oxygen levels in the water, as well as overall water levels, to drop.

The city is trying to raise the water level to protect the surviving fish.
