Castaway: New penal code does not address sexual violence against homosexuals and transgender people

While there are no studies on the prevalence of sexual violence against the LGBT+ community in India, a 2016 US survey gives us a general picture. The CDC’s National Survey on Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence in the LGBT+ Community found that 45 percent of lesbian women, 61 percent of bisexual women, 26 percent of gay men and 37 percent of bisexual men experienced rape, physical violence and/or stalking by a domestic partner. The survey also found that 48 percent of bisexual women experienced sexual violence at a young age – twice as many as heterosexual women who experienced the same.
