A car crashed into a power pole on Friday and caught fire, killing the driver, Phoenix police said.

The collision occurred on June 28 at 1:35 a.m. near 60th Street and Van Buren. A preliminary investigation indicates the driver was traveling westbound on Van Buren when he struck the northbound curb, causing the vehicle to leave the road and collide with a utility pole, police said.

After the car rolled into the desert, it caught fire and the fire department put it out.

The medical examiner’s office responded to identify the driver and investigate the cause of death, police said.
