ATCEMS: One dead after rescue in wilderness near Pennybacker Bridge

AUSTIN (KXAN) — One person is dead after a rescue attempt near the Pennybacker Bridge, Austin-Travis County EMS announced on social media Friday.

At around 8:20 p.m., ATCEMS paramedics said they were called to a wilderness rescue at the Pennybacker Bridge overlook at 5200 North Capital of Texas Highway northbound.


The Austin Fire Department was the first to arrive and helped rescue the adult from the trail. About halfway down the trail, the person suffered cardiac arrest, paramedics said.

After “extensive resuscitation attempts under difficult conditions,” doctors declared the person dead.

No further details were announced on Friday.
