Colombia: At least one dead and 20 injured after cable car collapse | World news

Ten people were inside when the car crashed onto the sidewalk, officials said. A 55-year-old man died of his multiple injuries after being taken to hospital.

At least one person was killed and 20 others injured in a cable car accident in Colombia.

According to official reports, the cable car in Medellín, which is part of the city’s public transport system, broke down and crashed onto a sidewalk next to a train platform.

According to the city’s mayor, there were ten people in the car when it crashed, but it is not yet known whether the deceased person was on board or on the ground.

A 55-year-old man died from numerous injuries, the Clinica CES hospital said in a statement.

The 20 people injured in the incident received medical care and psychological support, authorities said.

While the rescue teams were on their way, around 200 passengers were in 40 gondolas of the transport system.

Metrocable is a cable car system designed to serve some of Medellín’s hilltop neighborhoods.

Metrocable manager Tomas Elejalde said the cable car collided with another cabin and then failed while approaching a station in the northeast of the city.
