Man allegedly stalked and attacked woman on bike path – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

SPRINGFIELD – A man is accused of stalking a woman on a bike path with the intention of assaulting her.

Adam Humphreys, 18, of Springfield, was indicted by a Clark County grand jury on charges of attempted rape, kidnapping and strangulation.

The charges are related to an alleged attack on May 30.

A woman, whose age is unknown, told officers she was attacked while walking along the bike path near Simon Kenton Trail and Mitchell Boulevard.

She suffered bruises, marks and scratches as a result of the alleged attack.

According to an affidavit, she stated that a man began to follow her before running toward her and knocking her to the ground.

Investigators believe this was an attempt to sexually abuse the victim.

According to the affidavit, she fought back against the man, sustaining blows and scratches.

She was able to free herself and call 911.

The suspect fled, but tips led police to Humphreys, a registered sex offender.

According to online prison records, he was arrested on June 18.

Humphreys is currently in custody at the Clark County Jail.
