A teenager was killed and a younger child was injured in a hit-and-run crash outside a Queens school on the last day of school, according to law enforcement sources.

The two people, a 16-year-old girl and an 8-year-old child, were struck by a truck near the intersection of 47th Avenue and 47th Street in Sunnyside shortly before 3:30 p.m., police sources said. The accident scene was just in front of Woodside Intermediate School 125.

Sources told NBC New York that the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene, while the child was taken to Cornell Hospital. The child’s condition was not immediately clear, but he is believed to have sustained only minor injuries and is expected to survive.

The driver of the truck fled the scene of the accident. Police were able to locate the truck and later arrest a driver.

Wednesday was the last day of school in New York City public schools; the incident occurred immediately after school let out.

The investigation is ongoing.
