Six Jewish youths physically attacked in front of Paris cinema

According to French politicians and media, six Jewish youths were physically attacked in front of a Paris cinema on Saturday.

The mayor of Paris’ 17th district, Geoffroy Boulard, condemned on Sunday an anti-Semitic attack on several minors in his district outside a cinema in the So Ouest shopping center. Boulard said on social media that he was in contact with Paris police over the incident.

“I trust that police investigators will find the perpetrators of this intolerable attack and that the justice system will impose the penalties provided for in such cases,” Boulard said on X.

The Figaro On Sunday, police reported that three people approached the six minors, shouted anti-Semitic insults at them and beat two of the victims. The minors then fled the scene to a nearby police station.

The Collectif Nous Vivrons condemned the incident on Sunday, saying: “Every day we witness anti-Semitic violence in our country.”

“Wait for actions, not just words”

“So many French people of Jewish faith suffer every day in their daily lives,” said the anti-antisemitism group. “We are not just waiting for words. We are waiting for actions.”

The incident occurred several days after the anti-Semitic gang rape of a twelve-year-old Jewish girl in the Paris suburb of Courbevoie.

Boulard said in a statement on Monday in response to the incident: “The horror of anti-Semitism directly threatens our republican pact” and said that President Emmanuel Macron’s “hour of discussion” on racism and anti-Semitism proposed for Wednesday was not enough. Boulard said awareness could not replace “the necessary tightening of the law to combat this disgusting scourge in all its forms.”
